while needless to say i really am partial to the old ask.com monkey commercial:
the new “algorithm” commercials crack me up, especially this one:
however, i have to wonder who they are targeting in these ads. i mean, i’m pretty sure my parents & neighbors have no clue what “the algorithm” is. is ask.com trying to appeal to the techie types with these new commercials? i know in our seo efforts at my day job, ask.com is pretty low on the totem pole, if not completely ignored (i can’t remember ever checking a clients rankings in ask.com’s serps).
ask.com even aknowledges the average joe’s ignorance of the algorithm on their own blog:
“Many of you who read this blog already know what an algorithm is, and how it separates good searches from the better ones. But your friends probably don’t. Thanks to the work of the Ask marketing team and our new ad agency, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, however, that’s about to change.”
i’m not sure how the new ads are accomplishing that, as what i’ve seen so far never really touches on what an algorithm is or how it relates to search, but rather leaves the viewer hanging
just being a curious monkey…now i’m off to go get “all algorithm-ed out”!
